Epoxy wire shelving is coated steel wire shelving built for damp, cold places where chrome would rust. Babak Food Equipment supplies epoxy coated wire shelving for walk-in coolers and freezers, dish rooms, dry storage and prep areas in restaurants, bakeries, grocers, hotels and institutions across Vancouver and British Columbia, from brands such as Thorinox, Atosa and Efi, in green, black and grey finishes.
Types of epoxy wire shelving
Green epoxy coated wire shelving
Green epoxy is the classic finish for commercial walk-in coolers and freezers. The coating resists moisture and condensation, and the open wire design lets cold air circulate around food.
Black and grey epoxy shelving
Black or grey epoxy finishes suit front-of-house storage, bars and retail areas where looks matter as much as durability.
Shelving units and add-ons
Complete shelving units come with four posts and three to five shelves, and you can add extra shelves, posts, casters and shelf dividers to build a run that fits your space.
How to choose epoxy wire shelving

Environment: epoxy is best for walk-in coolers, freezers and humid areas; chrome suits dry storage only.
Size: measure the depth and width of your space. Common depths are about 14 to 24 inches (36–61 cm), and widths are about 24 to 72 inches (61–183 cm).
Height and tiers: post height sets the number of shelves – 54-, 63-, 74- and 86-inch posts are common.
Load capacity: check the rating per shelf and spread weight evenly; capacity drops on longer spans and on mobile units.
Mobile or stationary: casters make cleaning easier, but stationary units carry more weight.
Food safety: keep the bottom shelf at least about 6 inches (15 cm) off the floor for cleaning and inspections.

Frequently asked questions
What is epoxy wire shelving used for?
It is used where moisture is present – walk-in coolers and freezers, dish rooms and prep areas – because the epoxy coating protects the steel from rust.
Is epoxy shelving better than chrome?
In wet or cold areas, yes. Chrome is bright and strong but can rust in humid conditions, while epoxy coated wire shelving is made to resist corrosion.
Can epoxy wire shelving go in a freezer?
Yes. Epoxy shelving is designed for freezers and coolers, and the open wire lets cold air circulate.
How much weight can a wire shelf hold?
It depends on the size and construction; many commercial wire shelves are rated for several hundred pounds each when the load is spread evenly. Check the specification sheet.
