Every licensed kitchen needs more than a pot sink, and the right commercial sink for each job keeps you organized and inspection-ready. Babak Food Equipment supplies hand sinks, bar sinks and mop sinks for restaurants, cafés, bars, bakeries, hotels and institutions across Vancouver and British Columbia. Our range includes stainless steel models from brands such as Thorinox, Efi and Atosa, in wall-mount, floor-standing and underbar styles to fit tight spaces and busy service areas.
Types of commercial sinks
Hand sinks
Commercial hand sinks are compact, dedicated hand-washing stations placed near prep lines, cooking stations and washrooms. Most are wall-mounted stainless steel bowls with a gooseneck faucet; options include knee- or foot-operated valves, side splashes, and soap and towel dispensers. A hand sink is required in food prep areas by health regulations, and it must be used only for hand washing.
Bar sinks
Bar sinks are built to fit under or behind the bar. Underbar sink units often combine one to four compartments with drainboards, so bartenders can wash, rinse and sanitize glassware without leaving their station. Many sit at the same height as other underbar equipment for a clean, continuous run.
Mop sinks
Mop sinks – also called utility or janitor sinks – sit low to the floor so staff can fill and empty mop buckets without lifting. Floor-mounted stainless models are easy to clean and resist the chemicals used in daily sanitation.

How to choose a commercial sink
Purpose first: health inspectors expect separate sinks for hand washing, food prep, warewashing and cleaning. Plan where each one goes before you buy.
Size and bowl depth: measure the wall or counter space and check the bowl dimensions. A deeper bowl reduces splashing; a compact hand sink fits beside a busy line.
Mounting style: wall-mount sinks save floor space, floor-standing units need no wall support, and underbar sinks must match your bar height and depth.
Stainless steel gauge: a lower gauge number means thicker steel. Heavier-gauge sinks resist dents in high-traffic areas.
Faucet and drain: confirm the faucet holes and spacing, the drain size and whether the faucet is included. Hands-free valves help with food safety.
Accessories: splash guards, drainboards, soap and towel dispensers, and wall brackets make each station complete.

Frequently asked questions
What is a commercial grade sink?
A commercial grade sink is usually made of stainless steel, with heavier construction, welded seams and smooth surfaces that are easy to sanitize. It is designed for constant use and to meet foodservice sanitation requirements.
What is considered a utility sink?
A utility sink – often called a mop or janitor sink – is a deep basin used for cleaning tasks such as filling and emptying mop buckets. It is kept separate from food prep and hand-washing sinks.
What are the different types of commercial sinks?
The main types are hand sinks, compartment (pot) sinks, bar sinks, prep sinks and mop or utility sinks. Most commercial kitchens need several types, each used only for its own task.
Is it normal to have two or more sinks in a commercial kitchen?
Yes. Health regulations generally require a dedicated hand sink in addition to the sinks used for warewashing and food prep, so most kitchens have several.
What size drain does a commercial sink use?
Drain sizes vary by model; many commercial sinks use a 1½-inch or 2-inch outlet. Check the specification sheet and your existing plumbing before you order.
