Chrome wire shelving is strong, bright and adjustable, and it is one of the most common ways to organize dry storage in a commercial kitchen. Babak Food Equipment supplies chrome wire shelving units from Thorinox for restaurants, cafés, bakeries, grocers, hotels, offices and institutions across Vancouver and British Columbia. Choose units in different depths, widths and heights, and add shelves and casters as your storage grows.
Types of chrome wire shelving
Stationary shelving units
Stationary units with leveling feet are the standard for dry storage rooms, carrying heavy cases of canned goods, flour, paper products and smallwares.
Mobile shelving units
Units on casters roll out for cleaning and move supplies between storage and prep areas. Locking casters keep them in place.
3-tier, 4-tier and 5-tier units
Taller posts take more shelves. A 3-tier unit fits under counters or in tight spaces, while 5-tier units make the most of tall storage rooms.
How to choose chrome wire shelving units

Location: chrome is best for dry, room-temperature areas. For walk-ins and wet areas choose epoxy instead.
Depth and width: common depths are about 14 to 24 inches (36–61 cm) and widths about 24 to 72 inches (61–183 cm). Measure the room and the aisle.
Height: post heights of about 54, 63, 74 and 86 inches are common; leave space below sprinklers and lights.
Load: heavy duty chrome wire shelving holds a lot, but spread weight evenly and check the rating per shelf.
Adjustability: shelves adjust in about 1-inch steps, so you can change the layout as your stock changes.
Food safety: keep the bottom shelf off the floor so you can clean underneath.

Frequently asked questions
Can chrome wire shelving be used in a walk-in cooler?
It is not recommended. Moisture and condensation can cause chrome to rust; epoxy coated shelving is made for coolers and freezers.
How do you assemble chrome wire shelving?
Most units use posts with plastic split sleeves: snap the sleeves onto the posts at the height you want, then slide each shelf down until it locks. No tools are usually needed.
Is chrome wire shelving NSF listed?
Many commercial wire shelving products are NSF listed for food storage. Check the specification sheet of the model you choose.
How do I clean chrome wire shelving?
Wipe it with a mild detergent and warm water, then dry it. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners that can damage the finish.
