A solid door reach-in refrigerator is the everyday cold-storage cabinet of a commercial kitchen, holding produce, dairy, sauces and prepped ingredients close to the line. Babak Food Equipment offers one-, two- and three-door solid door reach-in refrigerators for restaurants, cafés, bakeries, bars, hotels and institutions across Vancouver and British Columbia, with a wide range from Traulsen, Turbo Air, Infrico and Atosa. They sit within our reach-in refrigeration range.
Types of solid door reach-in refrigerators
One-, two- and three-section cabinets
Single-section models suit small kitchens and coffee bars, two-section units are the common choice for full-service restaurants, and three-section cabinets give high-volume kitchens maximum storage in one footprint.
Full doors or half doors
Full-height doors make it easy to load bulky items. Half doors split each section into two smaller openings, so less cold air escapes each time staff grab an item.
Top-mount or bottom-mount compressor
Top-mount refrigeration keeps the compressor away from floor dust and grease and leaves more usable space at the bottom. Bottom-mount units put the top shelf at an easier height and handle hot, busy lines well.
How to choose a solid door reach-in refrigerator
Capacity: size the cabinet to your deliveries and menu. Plan roughly one section for a small café and two or three for a busy restaurant.
Footprint and access: measure the space, door swing, doorways and corridors before you order, and leave clearance at the back and top for airflow.
Power: most units run on a standard 115 V plug, but check the plug type and whether a dedicated circuit is recommended.
Construction: stainless steel inside and out resists dents and cleans easily; aluminum interiors can lower the cost.
Shelving and doors: adjustable shelves, self-closing doors and replaceable gaskets help with daily use and inspections.
Energy use: solid doors already hold temperature better than glass. Efficient compressors and LED lighting reduce running costs further.

Frequently asked questions
What temperature should a reach-in refrigerator hold?
Commercial refrigerators are usually set between about 33 and 41°F (1–5°C), which keeps perishable food out of the bacterial danger zone.
Is a solid door or glass door reach-in better?
Solid doors insulate better and use less energy, so they are the usual choice for back-of-house storage. Glass doors make sense where staff or customers need to see the product without opening the door.
How much space does a reach-in refrigerator need?
Besides the cabinet width, which is roughly 27–30 in for one section and 52–55 in for two, leave a few inches behind and above for airflow and room in front for the doors to open fully.
Do reach-in refrigerators need a dedicated circuit?
Many single- and two-section models plug into a standard 115 V outlet, but manufacturers often recommend a dedicated circuit. Check the specification sheet for each model.
