A commercial gas hot plate is a countertop set of open burners that adds cooking power to any line without the footprint of a full range. Babak Food Equipment offers gas hot plates with one to six burners for restaurants, cafés, food trucks, caterers, hotels and institutions across Vancouver and British Columbia, from Hot Zone, Brika, Atosa and ikon. They are part of our hot plates range.
Types of gas hot plates
Single burner gas hot plates
A single burner unit handles stock pots, sauces and wok-style cooking in a small space, and is popular for food trucks, catering and specialty stations.
2-burner and multi-burner hot plates
Two-, four- and six-burner models give a compact cooking line on a stand or chef base, in widths of roughly 12 to 36 in.
Standard and heavy-duty burners
Heavy-duty models use cast iron grates and higher-output burners, often about 25,000–30,000 BTU each, for busy kitchens with large pots.
How to choose a gas hot plate
Burner count and output: match the number of burners and BTU rating to your menu and pot sizes.
Gas type: choose natural gas or propane to suit your site; many models can be converted with a kit.
Grates: cast iron grates are durable and hold heavy pots; check that they lift out for cleaning.
Ventilation: commercial gas hot plates must sit under an exhaust hood that meets local code.
Space and support: plan for a sturdy stand or chef base and the required clearance to walls and combustibles.
Controls: individual valves and standing pilots or electronic ignition affect convenience and gas use.

Frequently asked questions
What is a commercial gas hot plate?
It is a countertop appliance with one or more open gas burners, used like the top of a range but without the oven underneath.
Can a gas hot plate run on propane?
Many commercial gas hot plates are available for natural gas or propane, and some include a conversion kit. Always confirm the gas type before installation.
Does a commercial gas hot plate need a hood?
Yes. Gas cooking equipment in a commercial kitchen must be installed under a code-compliant exhaust hood.
Is a hot plate or a range better?
A hot plate saves space and cost when you only need burners. A range adds an oven below, which helps if you also bake or roast.
